Riot Games Signs Agreement With Seoul Metropolitan Government To Successfully Host 2023 LoL World Championship

Riot Games has joined hands with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to successfully host the 2023 League of Legends World Championship in South Korea.
Riot Games, which develops and serves the League of Legends (LoL), signed a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 15th (Friday) at the Seoul City Hall’s Seosomun Office in Jung-gu, Seoul, to cooperate for the successful hosting of the 2023 LoL World Championship.

Riot Games has decided to host the 2023 LoL World Championship in South Korea, which marks its 13th anniversary this year. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held in Busan Metropolitan City, and other competitions will be held in Seoul. The long-awaited final will be held on November 19 at Gocheok Sky Dome, a dome stadium located in Guro-gu, Seoul.

Under the business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Metropolitan Government agreed to cooperate to make the Gwanghwamun Square a space for esports and games from the 16th (Thursday) to the 19th (Sunday), which includes the final of the LoL World Championship.

Located in Jongno, downtown Seoul, Gwanghwamun is a very symbolic space in Korea’s politics, society, culture, and history. It is also the place where street cheering, which brought the nation together at every global sports event such as the World Cup and the Olympics, took place. This is the first time that the permission to use Gwanghwamun Square has been granted for an e-sports competition.

Through consultations with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Riot Games will decorate the Gwanghwamun Square area as a venue for festivals where you can enjoy e-sports and games from November 16 to 19. There will be games provided by Riot Games as well as various programs for fans to enjoy, and a group viewing party will be promoted on the 19th when music concerts and finals related to LoL esports will be held.

In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Riot Games will discuss cooperation in the use of landmarks organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and supporting outdoor advertising slots owned by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to successfully promote the competition.

“Thanks to the active cooperation of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, we were able to host the final of the 2023 LoL World Championship at Gocheok Sky Dome, and we will be able to go one step further and be with fans at Gwanghwamun Square,” LCK Secretary-General Junghoon Lee said. “As it is the first large-scale e-sports event to be held at Gwanghwamun Square, we will prepare carefully so that fans can enjoy it with pride.”
