KT Cuevas wins the KBO August MVP award for his “dominant pitching.”
Foreign right-handed pitcher William Cuevas of the KT Wiz of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) has been named the August Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League.
According to an announcement made by the KBO office on August 11, Cuevas swept 25 of 30 journalists’ votes and received 23,562 of 390,207 fan votes for a total of 44.40 points, outpacing the likes of Noh Si-hwan (Hanwha Eagles – 23.54 points) and Koo Ja-uk (Samsung Lions – 9.92 points) to become the first KT player to win the monthly MVP honor in nearly two years after Ko Young-pyo in September 2021.
After returning to Korean soil as a replacement for Bo Schuler, Cuevas went 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA and 37 strikeouts in five starts in August, throwing seven or more innings in all five games and no-hitting in three of them.
Cuevas is now 8-0 on the season and needs just two more wins without a loss to earn the 100 percent winning percentage award, which is given to players with 10 or more wins.
