KB Insurance snaps 11-game losing streak…GS Caltex upsets Silva in big way

Men’s volleyball KB Insurance ended the second round of the Dodram V-League with an 11-game losing streak after winning the opening match.

KB Insurance lost to visiting OK Financial Group with a set score of 1-3 (21-25 15-25 25-18 22-25) in the Dodram 2023-2024 V League Men’s Division at Sangryoksu Gymnasium in Ansan on Monday.

KB Insurance is last in the league with a record of 1-11 and 7 points.

They finished the first round with five straight losses after winning the opening game, and failed to escape the slump with six straight losses in the second round.

After dropping the first and second sets, KB Insurance bounced back with a one-set victory, led by Andres Biyena (real name Biyena), who scored nine points in the third set alone.

KB Insurance held a 19-16 lead midway through the fourth set, showing signs of a miraculous comeback.

However, they lost their focus at the end and lost the match in vain.

At 20-19, Bijena’s attack was blocked by OK Financial Group middle blocker Bayarsaihan Bassu (registered name Bayarsaihan) to tie the score, and then Hong Sang-hyuk and Bijena made consecutive errors to make it 20-22.

At 21-23, Bijena’s attack error came again, and she was unable to stop OK Financial Group’s Song Hee-chae’s attack.

With its 11th consecutive loss, KB Insurance is now just one loss away from tying the franchise record for consecutive losses (12) set in the 2019-2020 season.

KB Insurance was led by Bijena’s team-high 30 points and 58.70 percent attack percentage, but was hampered by 27 team errors.

OK Financial Group closed out the second round with two straight wins.

With 21 points (8-4), the team leapfrogged Samsung Fire (7-4, 19 points) into third place.

OK Financial Group received solid performances from Shin Shin-jin (19 points), Leonardo Leyva Martinez (registered name Leo – 17 points), Song Hee-chae (14 points), and Bayar Saihan (10 points).

In the women’s match at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, GS Caltex came from behind to defeat IBK IBK in straight sets 3-1 (19-25 25-19 25-22 25-20).

GS Caltex finished the second round in third place with an 8-4 record and 22 points.

Giselle Silva (registered name Silva) led both teams in kills with 35, followed by Kang So-hwi (17) and Yoo Seo-yeon (11).

GS Caltex was out-blocked 5-12 as a team on the day, but managed to seize control of the match with its organized offense and focus.

Silva, who was blocked repeatedly by Choi Jeong-min in the first set and scored just three points, made up for it by scoring 11 points in the second set alone.

With the game tied at 20-19, GS Caltex took the lead for good in the third set with a strong back row attack and an unforced error by Silva, and at 22-20 with two kills by Silva and a quick open point by Kang So-hwi.

In the fourth set, the Koreans jumped out to a 19-12 lead and trailed 22-20, but Silva scored three straight back-attack points to close out the match. 파워볼
