Ahn Hye-ji came through in the final minute to lead Busan BNK to a thrilling come-from-behind victory and snap a three-game losing streak.
BNK won 59-58 at home against Yongin Samsung Life in the regular season of the Woori Bank Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball League at Sajik Gymnasium in Busan on Monday.
Ending a three-game losing streak, fourth-ranked BNK gained its third win of the season (four losses) and set the stage for a rebound. On the other hand, third-ranked Samsung Life (4-4), which was undefeated this season except for the Asan Woori Bank-Cheongju KB game, suffered its first loss to a team from outside the “Yanggang”.
BNK, who were weakened after losing their top scorer Kim Han-byul to injury, found themselves down midway through the fourth quarter, but were able to smile thanks to Ahn Hye-ji’s performance just before the end of the game.
Trailing 57-58 with seven seconds left in the game, Bae Hye-yoon was driving down the court when the ball was stolen by Ahn Hye-ji, who quickly rushed her.
Ahn Hye-ji took off and finished the fast break with a layup with three seconds left to tie the game. On Samsung Life’s final possession, Lee Hae-ran’s mid-range shot missed the rim, giving BNK the final victory.
Without Kim Han-byul, Jin-an was the lone guard for BNK. Jin-an led the way for BNK with 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Shooter Lee So-hee provided firepower from the perimeter with 19 points, including three 3-pointers.
Ahn Hye-ji, who played a key role in the thrilling upset, finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
For Samsung Life, Lee Hae-ran contributed 15 points and nine rebounds.
National guard Yoon Ye-bin, who made his comeback against Shinhan Bank in Incheon after a lengthy rehabilitation from a knee injury sustained at the 2022 FIBA World Cup in September last year, scored 12 points and showed off his defensive prowess, but it wasn’t enough to give Samsung Life the win. 슬롯게이밍
