Doosan comes from behind to beat SSG 13-11

‘Kim Ki-yeon’s grand slam + Kim Taek-yeon’s two-inning walk-off’

The Doosan Bears pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory.

Doosan won the 13th game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League against SSG Landers, 13-11, at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Monday. With the win, Doosan improved its season record to 57 wins, 2 draws and 53 losses. The team is now 5-8 against SSG this season.

Starting pitcher Choi Won-jun was pulled early after allowing seven runs on five hits, one home run, three walks and one strikeout in 2⅔ innings, while Chung Cheol-won struggled with three runs on three hits, one home run, one walk and three strikeouts in ⅓ innings. But the bats came through. The bats exploded, with everyone in the lineup getting hits. They pounded out 21 hits in the first and second innings to demolish SSG.

Yang Ji (4-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 3 RBIs, 1 run scored), Yang Seok-hwan (6-for-3, 1 home run, 2 RBIs, 1 run scored), and Jared Young (6-for-4, 1 home run, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored) led the offense with home runs. Ki-yeon Kim delivered the game-winning hit in the ninth inning, while closer Taek-yeon Kim pitched two scoreless innings.

SSG, on the other hand, was led offensively by Ha Jae-hoon (4-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored) and Choo Shin-soo (4-for-3, 1 double, 1 walk, 1 RBI, 1 run scored), but it wasn’t enough to prevent the loss. The loss dropped their record to 53 wins, one draw, and 54 losses.

SSG’s lineup was Choi Ji-hoon (center fielder), Choo Shin-soo (designated hitter), Choi Jung (third baseman), Guillermo Heredia (left fielder), Han Yu-seom (right fielder), Kim Min-sik (catcher), Park Sung-han (shortstop), Jung Jun-jae (second baseman), and Oh Tae-gon (first baseman).

Doosan’s lineup was Jeong Soo-bin (center fielder), Kang Seung-ho (second baseman), Jared Young (right fielder), Yang Ji (catcher), Yang Seok-hwan (first baseman), Kim Jae-hwan (designated hitter), Heo Kyung-min (third baseman), Jeon Min-jae (shortstop), and Cho Su-hyung (left fielder).

After exchanging one run in the first inning, the two teams had big innings in the third. Doosan led off the inning with an infield single in front of the pitcher. Kang Seung-ho and Jared struck out, but Cho stole second to put runners on the corners, and Yang hit a two-run shot to center field. With the momentum in their favor, Doosan added another run on a solo shot to left by Yang Seok-hwan. Kim Jae-hwan singled to right and Heo Kyung-min walked to load the bases again. Jeon Min-jae’s RBI single to left scored the fourth run of the inning.

SSG then scored nine runs. One out later, Choi Ji-hoon was hit by a pitch. Choi was immediately replaced by Ha Jae-hoon for player protection. The next batter, Choo Shin-soo, singled up the middle to extend SSG’s lead. Choi Jung grounded out to center field, but Eredia and Han Yu-seom followed with back-to-back singles to score two runs. Kim Min-sik then drew a walk to load the bases, followed by Park Sung-hwan’s pushing single and Jung Jun-jae’s triple to center field. Oh Tae-gon’s RBI double to left and Ha Jae-hoon’s RBI single to left gave SSG the lead.

Doosan rallied in the top of the fourth. After a leadoff walk to Jung Soo-bin, Kang Seung-ho hit a single to right-center field. A throwing error by the 안전한 파워볼사이트 right fielder put runners on first and third. Jared followed with a two-run double to left center.

SSG went back in front. In the bottom of the fifth, leadoff hitter Jung Jun-jae bunted in front of the pitcher. Oh Tae-gon grounded out to shortstop, but Jung Jun-jae stole second. Ha Jae-hoon grounded out to SSG, but Choo Shin-soo hit a double to left center to score a run.

Doosan closed the gap with a home run of their own. In the top of the sixth, leadoff hitter Jered hit a solo arch over the left field fence.

Doosan finally tied the game in the top of the eighth inning. With the bases loaded after Jung Soo-bin singled to center, Jared singled to right, and Yang walked, Yang hit an RBI single to left. After Kim Jae-hwan grounded into a double play, Heo Kyung-min hit a two-run single to tie the game.

Doosan turned the game around in the top of the ninth. Jung Soo-bin led off with an infield single in front of the pitcher and stole second to put runners on first and second. Kang Seung-ho drew an automatic walk and Jared Garza followed with an infield single to first base. With the bases loaded, Kim Ki-yeon hit a two-run single to left. Doosan took the lead for the final time in the game.

They didn’t give up any more runs. Kim, who started the eighth inning, gave up a leadoff walk to Park Sung-sung in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out Kim Sung-hyun, grounded out to Oh Tae-gon at third base, and struck out Ha Jae-hoon to end the game.
